If you too like me hate acquiring a caterer and hate making sure that what they are cooking is exactly what you want, then there is another simpler and more majestic way of catering. It’s not a fresh way in fact it’s over five hundred years old and in my judgement is the easiest way to feed hundreds of hungry people. Having a hog roast. In England hog roasts have been a popular way of catering large parties or events for a very long time. Considering what you actually get when you have a hog roast for what you pay it is amazing, it is also alot less formal than many other catering techniques and therefore is a wonderful option. The matters you will need for a hog roast include all the cooking equipment and a chef for the day, the animal you want to roast and all the needed side dishes and sauces, usually a hog roasting company will be able to offer you this complete service. I discovered the company that I used on the internet and they were very honest, they turned up at my house in more than enough time to cook the hog ready for when I wanted to eat, they made sure I got everything I could perhaps require and were really good at carving the meat and serving my guests. I hope that the next time you have a party or event that you will think of having a hog roast.
A Great Hog Roast
Sugar Glider Lingo
As you may know already, sugar gliders have a wide variety of sounds they make. Four distinct sounds to be exact, and to a new parent they may be foreign. Do not worry, because we are going to take the time now and explain a little bit about each sound and its possible meaning.
The very first sound your sugar glider will probably make is crabbing. You probably heard this noise when you first brought them home. They make this sound out of stress and nervousness, and being in a new environment with new people is enough to make anyone nervous.
You might catch yourself blaming their next noise on the dog. Yes, you heard me correctly, the dog. Unbelievably your little pocket pets bark, but do not worry, it is a lot worse than its bite. Gliders bark for a couple of reasons. One reason is if a new person or animal makes itself visible to your little friend. Gliders also bark to get another gliders or even your attention. If you have more than one glider, you might get caught in the middle of a barking melody.
The next sound you may hear out of your glider’s little mouth may be the most soothing sound a glider can make. These sounds are chirping or chattering. It is actually more of a purring sound as a cat would make and we all know how soothing that can be sometimes. This sound can be translated as your glider being calm, comfortable, and letting you know he has grown fond of you.
The last sound you will probably hear is hissing. As aggressive as it may sound, that is not exactly what it means. Gliders may hiss when introduced to a new glider, but they also make this sound when they are wrestling around or even grooming themselves.
How Do I Train My Ferret Not To Nip?
Much like kittens and puppies, ferret kits must be taught not to nip. Ferrets have been bred to be a pet and shouldn’t be vicious or bite, but ferret play does include mock combat, and younger ferrets and kits won’t know how hard they can put their teeth on you without it hurting. A ferret at play may run towards you with his mouth open or even put his teeth on your hand, however if he presses down hard enough to hurt, you’ll need to discipline him. Remember, ferrets aren’t malicious; they just need to learn what behavior is acceptable.
Sometimes otherwise calm, gentle ferrets will react unfavorably to a high-pitched noise such as a squeaky toy or the sound of rubbing fingers on a window or balloon. This behavior is not quite understood, though it seems to be a protective instinct. If your ferret would bite wildly at the source of such a sound, our advice is, not to make that sound around them.
Unfortunately a ferret which has been mistreated may bite out of fear, or an older ferret might bite because of pain. In either of these cases, strict discipline isn’t going to do any good. For an animal in pain, of course, take it to the vet. For an abused ferret, try one of the alternatives mentioned below, and have a lot of patience: the ferret has to learn to trust someone when all it has known before is abuse. Further information about such instances has been created by Regina Harrison about caring for and rehabilitating such “problem” ferrets.
In most cases, positive reinforcement such as giving treats or praise when your ferret does well works far better than punishment. However if you feel you need one, use a “time out” for a few minutes in a cage or carrier. Similarly, don’t set the ferret down when they struggle and nip because this will enforce to them that this behavior will get them what they want. Finally, whichever method you use, consistency and immediacy are very important.
Alternatives vs. nose-flicking
Flicking a ferrets nose while their teeth are on you is a common form of discipline, but much like spanking a child it might not be the best. Your ferret may end up associating you with bad things rather than good ones. Also, it’s not a good idea to use nose-tapping or other physical discipline on a ferret who has been mistreated or who is acting unusually aggressive or frightened. Below are several alternatives, which you may want to try alone or in combination:
• If your ferret is biting too hard in play, try using a signal they already understand: a high-pitched “Yip!” or “Hey!”, much like the noise one kit makes when another is playing too roughly. Your ferret however could interpret this as a sign of weakness. In this case switch to a deep, commanding voice and act as stern as you can.
• Stop the game by gently pinning your ferret down until they get bored
• Confine the misbehaving ferret to a cage and ignore them for a few minutes. This can be very effective, especially if there’s another ferret wandering around out of the cage having fun.
• You can cover your hands with Bitter Apple so that nipping tastes bad.
• Some have had luck by either pushing a finger into the ferret’s mouth (sideways, behind the back teeth) or holding the mouth open from behind (being careful not to choke the ferret) immediately after a bite. Many ferrets find either of these uncomfortable, associating the unpleasant feeling with the taste of finger.
• If you need your ferret to let go, cover both nostrils with your fingers. Be sure if they still hang on, not to keep them there long, risking further frustration, suffocation, or anger.
• If your ferret doesn’t mind being scruffed, this can help. You could also shake the ferret gently by the scruff, or drag them along the floor while you hiss. Both these mimic the way mother ferrets reprimand their kits. Obviously, don’t be so rough that you hurt him. You can also cover his face with your hand, which he probably won’t like.

Dogs - Grooming Tips and Information
Grooming Man’s Best friend
Proper grooming for your dog does not only have aesthetic
purposes but also adds to your pet’s holistic growth - physical
and psychological. Since dog hair can interlace due to dirt and
grime in the coat forming mats and tangles, they would need to
be groomed to keep proper hygiene. Plus grooming generates more
bonding time with your pet, creating a stronger relationship.
It is best to train your dog to be groomed at an early age. But,
an untrained dog can still be taught to accept all the
attention. Train your pet to get used to his body parts being
handled and brushed. You need not go to a professional groomer,
but if you don’t have the time or the interest to groom your
dog, be sure to select a groomer that handles the animals gently.
Things to Remember in Grooming your Dog
Make a daily examination of your pet’s body parts. Look out for
bumps, hot spots, inflammation, irritation, vegetative matter,
and parasites like fleas and ticks in his coat. Get rid of fleas
by using a fine-toothed comb while ticks can be tweezed off.
Ears should be checked - droop ears are inclined to infection
which can lead to permanent hearing loss. Examine your
companion’s pads - dirt, grime, pebbles, chemicals can get
caught that can infect his paws.
Brushing doesn’t only remove mats, it also takes away dead hair,
thus eliminating animal odor. Tangles can also be very painful
for your dog that may lead to skin inflammation. Grooming during
shedding encourages growth of new coat, so brush especially
after physical exercise.
Nails should be trimmed every month, especially if your dog has
a hard time walking. Dental hygiene is maintained by using dog
toothpaste and toothbrush with soft bristles twice a week. A
damp cotton cloth is used to remove mucus from your dog’s eyes
and a coarse rag is appropriate in cleaning your pet’s face.
When bathing your pet, make sure that you brush away dead hairs
first to clear all the mats in his coat. Soak your pet in warm
water. Apply a pet shampoo in small amounts. Target areas are
the eyes, ears, rectum, toes and under the chin. Avoid getting
soapy water in his eyes and ears. You also have an option to
apply coat conditioner after bathing. Different breeds require
varying bath frequency; consult the local pet grooming shop if
you’re not sure how many times you should bath your dog.
It is recommended that a dog owner has his own home grooming
kit. A good kit includes a grooming brush, clippers for dog
toenails, combs with varying teeth (fine, medium coarse), dog
shampoo, coat conditioner, and a coarse rag.
How to get a Breeding Pair of Discus fish
Most discus keepers will one day want to breed there fish. Some
will just want one pair and some will want there very own fish
house stocked full of discus fish.
Everyone starts with just one pair, I know I did. I soon wanted
more and then more. As you go along you keep adding to your
collection. The good thing about breeding discus is that you can
cover all of your expenses by selling your young one.
Now I know some of you are just getting into discus fish and
might like to know how is the best way to go about breeding
discus and getting a pair.
There are three options available if you want to acquire a pair
of discus, here there are:
1, firstly, the most common way to do it is to buy six to eight
young discus at around 3in and grow them up. By doing this you
should be able to get one or two pairs of discus.
2, secondly you can buy a proven pair of discus from an
importer. This is risky as you need proof and they will be very
expensive.
3, the last way to get a breeding pair of discus is to buy two
or three young adult discus at around 5in size. At this size
there may be some signs of what sex the fish is and if you get
three your chances of getting a pair can be good.
Now there are positives and negatives about all of these
methods. Not one method is better than the next but it depends
on the individual. For a beginner I would recommend starting
which young less expensive fish as then you have room for
mistakes.
If you require your pair fast for whatever reason the way to go
is to get a proven pair from a trusted dealer. You are paying
extra for convenience here of not having to pair the fish up
yourself.
The method I like is to select young fish and grow them on as
this enables me to select only the best discus for breeding and
gives me more control. However I have in the past purchased
adults of a new strain to give me a head start over other
breeders.
