Personal Use May be Compromising Security of Office Laptops

A recent survey by pollsters Opinion Matters on behalf of voice and internet service provider Vodafone has shown that a majority of british employees have been using office laptops for personal affairs.

According to the poll, more than half of the employees actively indulge in the practice whereby the laptops are connected to personal mobile broadband connections once the day at work gets over. The employees considered this as another part of the various perks at work, similar to using office stationary.

The poll also found that almost two-thirds of the bosses interviewed did not really mind this trend. Whether the rest of them considered this a ground for sacking an employee was not revealed by the survey. To avoid any awkward situations at work, it might be worth taking a look at some of the free laptop offers available, so as not to give your boss cause for admonishment.

Experts have suggested that the company should keep its security system upgraded so that personal use of laptops does not put any official data and business information at risk. However, Vodafone emphasizes on the need for managers to maintain a calm attitude towards the use, as forceful and restrictive response will only bring in riskier practices on part of the employees to avoid the restrictions. Vodafone’s head of business services, Mike Banwell believes that office practices should not become too rigid as that can only have adverse repercussions.
